Doris L. Merrill Stephen Collier

Newark –Doris L. Collier, 88, died Sunday (August 1, 2010) at the Wayne County Nursing Home.

          Funeral services will be at 3 PM on Friday (August 6th) in the Chapel of the Park Presbyterian Church, Maple Court, Newark. 

Burial will be in East Newark Cemetery.

          Memorials in her name may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 435 East Henrietta Road, Rochester, New York 14620 or to a charity of your choice.

          Mrs. Collier was born October 13, 1921, in Morehead City, North Carolina, the daughter of Zennie and Sarah Oglesby Merrill.  She had worked at Jackson Perkins for many years and then worked at the Newark Developmental Center until her retirement. 

          Doris is survived by her son Henry (Christine) Stephens of Newark, daughter Doris (Donald) Waddell of Phelps; four grandchildren Stephen Kepner, Misty (Thomas) Nielson, Merrill Stephens, Cara Stephens, two great grandchildren Blake and Jolie Nielson; three sisters Sallie Tataronwicz of New Bern, NC, Mary Ann Donahue of Jacksonville, NC and Jeanette Morris of Beaufort, NC; a brother Zennie Merrill of Morehead City, NC, several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her husbands Henry Stephens who was killed during World War II and Harold Collier on July 4, 1993.
