Newark--- Dorothy died peacefully at the Pines of Peace Hospice in Ontario, October 19, 2011 at the age of 93.

Dorothy was born June 17, 1918, the daughter of Jennie and Clare Emerick in the Town of Ira, New York.  Dorothy graduated from Cato High School in 1934 as Valedictorian of her class. She worked for the Newark Courier Gazette as a typesetter, and she worked many years in the offices of Jackson Perkins.  She enjoyed raising flowers and selling them at the farmers market, and was an avid quilter, and antique collector.  Many antiques were family pieces and she knew who owned them and their significance.  She has the honor of being the oldest active member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, of Newark.  She attended and participated weekly in activities there.  Dorothy was generous with her time and would drive members without transportation to Doctors appointments.  She will always be remembered as an independent, energetic, yet soft-spoken woman.  .

She is survived by her husband of 17 years, Paul Southard, , her three sons, James (E. Williamson, N.Y.), John (Gwinn, MI), Jerry (Phoenix, AZ), from her marriage, a daughter Patsy Castiglia and sons Bill Southard and Lee Southard, (deceased).  Dorothy was a loving Grandma to 10 Grand children and 12 great grand children. She is predeceased by her first husband Russell Hubbard in 1992 and a brother Roland Emmerick,.
