Ellsworth R. Cowley

 

Newark/Fairville—, Ellsworth R. Cowley,75, died peacefully at home, Monday (October 17, 2011) with his family by his side.

            Friends may call Thursday (October 20th) from 3 till 7 pm at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 E. Miller St., Newark. A Masonic service will follow calling hours. Burial will be in Marion Cemetery at the family’s convenience.

            Memorials in his name may be made to the Finger Lakes Oncology Center, 6 Ambulance Drive, Clifton Springs, NY 14432.

            Mr. Cowley was born September 21, 1936 in West Walworth, the son of the late Robert E. and Marion Perrin Cowley. He graduated from Marion High School, class of 1956. Al served his country during the Korean Conflict. He worked for American Can Company in Fairport for 33 years and Motts in Williamson for 7 years until his retirement in 2000. Al belonged to the Arcadia Memorial Post VFW in Newark and the Masonic Lodge #926 in Marion. He loved to pilot his own airplane and putter around with his antique gas hit and miss engines. A great friend, handyman and electrician, Al would always be there for anyone who needed a helping hand.

            Al is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Elaine Marriott Cowley; four children Michael (Cheryl), Steven (Dawn), Christine (Ray) Schmidhammer and Robert (Sue); eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren, sister Jean Cowley and brother Ralph Cowley both of California; sister-in-laws Dolores Brook and Linda (Richard) Canne; a brother-in-law Lentz Bates; several nieces , nephews and many, many great friends.

            The family would like to thank all their family and friends, the staff at Finger Lakes Oncology and the staff at Life Time Care for all there help and prayers.
