Remembrances

Out of the blue I decided to look for Tody on facebook. We were friends from Colorado, but we had lost touch. When I saw the obituary instead of a facebook page I was shocked and so terribly saddened.  Tody and I took a crazy trip to Kansas from Colorado once to visit her friend David - I seem to recall we stayed on a farm with his aunt and uncle, but it's very vague. I remember when David was killed.  Also, my now husband and I visited Tody about 30 years ago when she had that rattan store upstate ny somewhere... She was good friends with a guy named Paul Wolfberg, and his x-girlfriend, Ann something...Tody introduced me to Paul in Colorado and I dated him briefly.....I am so so sad to learn of her death, now 2 years ago. She was such a wonderful, kind person.. My condolences to her family...Ellen Bikoff Phipps

When I found out about the news I really felt sad inside.  I have such good memories of Tody and the Kouwe family.  She will be really missed by all.  She really had a great way I being able to talk with anyone.

Dear Doug,

I am Maureen's sister Marcia. I tried to send you a message earlier this morning after reading your note on her obituary site. I hope you received it. She definitely was the same person you knew years ago. We as her family would love to hear from you and hope you will respond to this message.

Thanks so much!

Dear Doug,

I was just checking this site at the Funeral Home web page and found your message about my sister Maureen. Yes, I am certain she was the same girl who visited with you and your family in Kansas. She spoke so fondly of you all and I know she was just devastated when David was so tragically killed. How very strange that you should be thinking of her around the time she died! I too believe in the spiritual realm and many things that have happened over the past 6 weeks confirm that belief.

When cleaning out some of her personal papers we found letters to her from David and a note from your sister thanking her for remembering the family when he died. I found those two days after you sent this message!

Maureen suffered a ruptured cerebral aneurysm while skiing with our brother and his wife in Colorado....strangely where she met David years ago. She died 2 days later after being in a coma immediatley after the event happened. Her organs were donated per her wishes and on February 27 we had a celebration of her life. You wrote this message on that same date, while the celebration was going on!!!!

Maureen never married. She was living in Rochester, NY not far from her hometown of Newark, NY. She was a prepress manager in a large printing company. Her passions were being the best sister and aunt ever, biking, skiing and swimming. She loved nature, animals and spent a lot of time gardening and taking care of her beloved Belgian Sheep dog, Rio. She would be thrilled to know we have heard from you all and please, please share our appreciation with your family.

I hope to hear from you soon. I am her older sister Marcia. my e-mail is mkouwebrown@yahoo.com and my address and phone are included here. Thank you so very much for contacting us. We miss her dearly but are continuing to be comforted by messages just like this.

Thank you so much!

I'm sorry to intrude if I have the wrong Maureen Kouwe... sometime between 1976 and 1982, my cousin David Morgan from Redbank, New Jersey was living with us in Kansas when he had a visit from his friend Maureen Kouwe.  At the time, David was between 19 and 25 and Maureen was near his age, maybe a little older.  She was very sweet, and quickly made friends with my entire family on a very short visit.  After she left, she kept in touch with us by cards and letters, even after David was killed in 1982 by a drunk driver.  I was a teenager when I met her, and she impressed me so much that I have remembered her my whole life since then, but I only think of her once in a great while.

For some reason, she came to mind a few weeks ago, and I've been having numerous conversations with my family about her lately, and each of us felt the same way about her.  Today I decided to look for her on Facebook to see if I could reconnect with her, only to find that she may have tragically passed away around the same time I started thinking of her so heavily... if she is the same Maureen that I knew, this strengthens my belief if the spiritual realm.  If not, then it is just a strange coincidence and I apologize for intruding on your grief.

If it's not too painful or inconvenient, would someone who knew the Maureen who recently passed let me know if this could be the same person?  Thank you.

I was so sorry to hear of Tody's passing. My older sisiter Mary was good friends with Tody and I was just the little sister. But I remember how kind Tody was to me and how she would engage me in conversation. She was very sweet to me and I will always have fond memories of her.
