Newark/Honeoye Falls—Wallace R. Straight, 88, died Friday (April 8, 2016) at the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital.

 

Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. on Wednesday (April 13th) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 A.M. on Thursday (April 14th) at St. Michael Church, South Main Street, Newark. Burial will be in Newark Cemetery.

 

Memorials, in his name, may be made to St. Michael Church, 401 South Main Street, Newark, New York 14513 or the Golisano Children's Hospital, 601 Elmwood Avenue, Rochester 14642.

 

Mr. Straight was born on on April 5, 1928 in Rochester the son of the late John E. and L. Grace Partridge Straight. He served in the US Army in Korea during the Korean Conflict and had been a member of the Honeoye Falls American Legion. For twenty-two years, he worked for Rochester Gas and Electric, then for a few years various other companies. He finished his working career in 1995 at Kodak, where he was the large copier service representative for thirteen years. In his retirement, Wally spent time at both the Newark and Canandaigua Walmart's where he was a greeter. There he became known as the “DOLLAR MAN”, raising over $270,000 in four and a half years for the Golisano Children's Hopital, this he did in honor of his grandson. He was a communicant of St. Michael's Church. Wally was also an amateur radio enthusiast, using the handle of “whiskers” and call sign of AB2IK. He had also belonged to “MARS” the Military Auxiliary Radio System.

 

Wally is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ann; children Greg (Trish) of Trenton, TX, Rev. Pamela (Wesley) Klotzbach of Basom, NY and Judy (Randy) Bouwens of Newark; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister Laurel (Harold) Grundman of Honeoye. He was predeceased by a grandson Brian Bouwens; siblings John, Robert and Louise Straight.
