Remembrances

Dear Tom.

I have often called you my hero in a tone that was half joking and half serious.  But it is true!  You are my hero!! You are my hero for being the kind of person who deals with life as it is instead of as you wish it to be.  You are my hero for making really witty jokes (very quietly) and then refusing to repeat them when only the few who were paying attention laughed.  You are my hero for being so caring to my sister Mary.  You are my hero for working all night and still coming to family events the next day.  And you are my hero for being a friend, another brother, to me.

Dearest Mary, How sorry I am that I cannot be with you. I weep for the precious person that Tom was to all of us. He was the gentlest man I know, and he loved you with a devotion and passion that are rare and beautiful. I will take a moment during our church prayers tomorrow to remember him to the members of my congregation here. My schedule is so complicated right now that I am not sure I will be able to make it to Wayne County very soon, but please know that I am thinking of you and holding you in God's light every day. May God's grace and the deep love of your family and all of your friends hold you warmly in these days. Love Carol Wilson
