Newark–Bertha Claeys, 94, died Tuesday (April 20, 2010) at Christus St. Michael Healthcare Center in Texarkana, Texas.

          Friends may call from 2-5 P.M. on Sunday (April 25th) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller St., Newark. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 A.M. on Monday (April 26) at St. Michael’s Church, South Main Street, Newark.  Burial will be in Newark Cemetery. 

          Memorials, in her name, may be made to St. Michael’s Church.

          Mrs. Claeys was born November 23, 1915 in Palmyra the daughter of John and Emma Ritco Hamelinck.  She was retired from C.H. Stuart.  Bertha was a communicant of St. Michael Church before moving to Texarkana in June of 2008, to be with her daughter.

          She is survived by her daughter Berniece (Elwyn) Meyers of Texarkana; three grandsons, David, Michael and Steven Meyers; six great grandchildren, Daniel, Melissa, Liam, Benjamin, Zachary and Brandon; three great great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.  Bertha was predeceased by her husband Ceriel in 1998; brothers Gus, Bert, Tom, Willard and Jake Hamelinck.
