Betty Jean Simmons
Lyons/Newark—Betty Jean Simmons, 77, died Saturday (December 2, 2017) at the home of her son in Lyons.
A celebration of Betty's life will be at the annual Christmas Party she held each year. Friends and family are invited to this party at 1 PM on Sunday December 17th at the Alec Eligh Community Center, 303 East Avenue, Newark.
Betty was born on March 1, 1940 in Clyde, the daughter of the late Lorenzo and Leona Kent Forjone. She graduated from Clyde High School and continued getting several college credits. Betty had owned and operated Wee Fish Shop, first in Clyde and then in Newark. She was a teachers aide in various schools in Wayne County. At one time or another she had been a waitress though out the area, Betty had also been a representatives, selling printing for business cards, pamphlets and other business supplies. For many years, Betty has been a regular at the Syracuse Flea Market selling toys and other items. She also was active buying and selling items on the internet. She was a member of the American Business Women's Association. Betty always had time or made time for her children and grandchildren and cooking for the family gatherings. She loved to cook.
She is survived by her ex-husband and good friend Fred Simmons, Sr.; her children, Jean Curtin of Durham, NC, Frederick “Rick” (Cynthia) Jr. of Savannah, Dennis (Michelle) of Sodus Point, Andrew of Lyons; ten grandchildren, Lisa Curtin, Carly Simmons, Warren Hartman, Samuel Simmons, Dezzeray Simmons, Kristin Coomber, Jeffrey David, Martin Rewa, Michael Howard and Brandon Howard; several great grandchildren; her siblings Rose (Jim) Lisenring, Georgette (Bernard) Taft, Pam (Gerald) Gionnone, Larry (Debbie) Forjone, Cheryl (Skip) Cole, Jock Forjone, Rick Forjone and Theresa (David) Sager; sister-in-law Judy Forjone; many nieces and nephews. Betty was predeceased by daughters Tina and Kathren Simmons; her grandchildren Michael Curtin, Christopher Rewa; her siblings Donnetta Ufholz, Chuck Forjone, Joe Forjone, Rocky Forjone, Charlotte Creech, Ron Forjone and her long time friend Chuck Girrard.
