Newark–Christopher Thomas Velte, 49, died Tuesday (December 28, 2010) at the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital.

            Friends may call on Sunday (January 2nd) from 5 to 8 pm at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller St. in Newark.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Monday (January 3rd) at St. Michael’s Church, South Main Street, Newark.  

          Memorials, in his name, may be made to the Kitchen Fund, Newark Elks Lodge, 233 South Main Street, Newark, 14513 or to the Newark-Arcadia Volunteer Ambulance, 301 Frey Street, Newark, 14513.

          Mr. Velte was born in Newark on January 25, 1961, the son of  Thomas G. andAngela Ursano Velte.  He graduated from of Midlakes High School in 1980. He then served with the Navy Seabees for five years, where he learned the welding trade.  Chris had worked for Smith Medal Works for twenty years.  He is a member of the Newark Elks Lodge.  A staunch Pittsburgh Pirates fan and an avid outdoorsman, he loved to hunt and fish.

          He is survived by two daughters Mallory and Miranda Velte of Gananda, his parents Tom and Dolly Velte of Newark, his loving companion Snow Lynn Norsen of Newark,  two brothers James (Nancy) of Buffalo and Matthew (Tricia) of Norwich, CT, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
