David Honness

Newark-David Honness, 89, passed Tuesday May 13, 2025, at Laurel House in Newark, New York.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 PM on June 7, 2025, at Faith Fellowship Church, 3757 Mill St., in Marion. Burial will be in the NYS Veterans Cemetery-Finger Lakes (Sampson).

Mr. Honness was born in Ithaca, on March 6, 1936, the son of the late James and Marie Fowler Honness. He graduated from Ithaca High School in 1953 and Ithaca College in 1962. He served his country in the US Army from 1954-1956. David was a choral music teacher for 50 years, 25 in Newark Central School District. He was well known as a frequent actor with Pittsford Musicals and performing with Black Friars of Rochester. He conducted the Canal Town Chorale for 7 years. Actually, Dave’s conducting career began as a young soldier in German-American choir in Frankfort, Germany. His interests included carpentry, having single handedly built the second log home in the Wayne County area. His love of gardening inspired his wife to join him in this and other crafts.

Dave is survived by wife of 35 years Deborah; a son Christopher (Kathy) Honness; stepson Donald Smith; a brother James (Debbi) Honness; four grandchildren Matthew, Lexi, Taylor and Kyle. He was predeceased by his son Kevin in 2008; a brother Duane.
