Newark/Sodus--- Donald L. VanHoute, 78, died Friday (January 31, 2014) at the DeMay Living Center.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. on Tuesday (February 4th) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. Funeral services will be Wednesday (February 5th) at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Brian Maag officiating. Burial will be in East Newark Cemetery.
Memorials, in his name, may be made to the Newark Fire Department, 100 East Miller St. Newark, NY 14513.
Mr. VanHoute was born on February 15, 1935, in Fairport, New York the son of Jacob and Hazel Loveless VanHoute. After graduating from Newark Senior High School in 1954, Don enlisted in the US Navy and served until 1959. He was a union carpenter and a member of the Rochester Carpenter Union, Local #85. Don was a 50 year member of the Excelsior Hook and Ladder Company of the Newark Fire Department and a member of the Newark Elks Club #1249.
He is survived by his loving companion Lois Brackett, two daughters Debra (John) Maynard of Mentor, OH, Terri (Jeff) Spencer of Newark, three stepsons Kevin (Kelly) Ridley of Chandler, AZ, Todd (Shannon) Ridley of Austin TX, Tim (Kathy) Brackett of Manchester, two stepdaughters Tammy (Jean) Brackett of Alfred and Tara Carr of Palmyra, three grandchildren Garret Spencer, Amanda Vogel, Marisa Saber, 12 step grandchildren, one great granddaughter and two sisters Carolyn Bliss of Newark and JoAnne Wills of South Carolina.
