Newark—Dorothy F. Taylor, 95, died Saturday (May 21, 2011) at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital.

          Friends may call from 4-7 P.M. on Tuesday (May 24th) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 A.M. on Wednesday (May 25th) at St. Michael Church, South Main Street, Newark.  Burial will be in Newark Cemetery.

          Memorials, in her name, may be made to St. Michael’s Church.

          Mrs. Taylor was born January 28, 1916 in Newark, the daughter of the late John and Sylvia VerVers Finewood.  A life-long resident of the Newark area, she was a communicant of St. Michael’s Church and a member of its Rosary and Altar Society.  Dorothy had helped her husband Leon on their dairy farm and was a member of several dairy farmer associations.  She was a life member of the Newark Grange and a leader with the Junior Matrons for many years. Dorothy had been a 4H leader, a member of the Arcadia Senior Citizens and a volunteer with Meals on Wheels.  May 18, 1961, Dorothy was honored as Mother of the Year by the Downtown Retail Merchants’ in their fifth annual contest.

          She is survived by a daughter Kathleen (Gary) Schancer of Albuquerque, NM, sons William L. (Sherriall) of Denton, TX and John W. (Eileen) of Newark; 10 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband of 74 years, Leon in 2009 and a daughter Elaine Lannon in 2010. Remembrance may be made to www.murphyandsonsfuneralhome.com
