Elizabeth “Betty” (DeWind) Kouwe

Newark---Elizabeth “Betty” (DeWind) Kouwe, 90, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 20, 2026.

No public calling hours will be held.  Family and close friends will gather  from 10-11:30 AM on Friday, April 10, 2026, at Paul L. Murphy and Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller St., Newark, NY. A committal service will follow at 11:30 AM at Newark Cemetery.

According to her wishes, please no flowers. She wished any donations may be made to the Wayne County Humane Society, Camp Good Days or the House of John.

Betty was employed for several years in the Newark High School Cafeteria and for NYS DDSO, eventually retiring from the business office. In her retirement she enjoyed golfing, traveling to Florida, playing cards and entertaining friends and family at her home on Cayuga Lake.

She is survived by her children Mark (Donna) Kouwe of Richmond, Texas, Mary Kouwe of Columbia, Maryland, Matthew (Marcia) of Newark, NY and Linwood Jr. ”Chip" Kouwe of Savannah, NY, Brothers Michael McGinty of Newark, NY and Gerard DeWind of Sebring, Florida, six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents Theofelt , Mary (Van Parys) and Emily (McGinty) Dewind, Sisters Dorothy (George) McWilliams, Marian (Elwin)Bliek and Brother Francis (Marge)DeWind.
