Newark—Howard John Farrell, died on Sunday (September 1, 2019) at the Newark Manor Nursing Home.

Friends may call from 6 PM to 7 PM at on Tuesday (September 10th) in the Garden Room at the Newark-Manor Nursing Home with a funeral service following the calling hours. Burial will be on Wednesday (September 11th) at Sampson Veteran Memorial Cemetery

Mr. Farrell was born on August 18, 1920 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of the late William and Augusta Cutler Farrell. He graduated from Rutgers University where he majored in Agriculture. He enlisted in the US Army during World War II. In the service, Howard was a medic and was assigned to a hospital in Great Britain. While in England, he met his bride to be Gwenyth who was serving in the Women Royal Navy and they were married on December 10, 1945. Coming home after the war, they settled in Vineland, New Jersey where they owned a poultry farm. After the poultry farm, Howard owned several other businesses including, a horse livery stables and several retail stores. Growing older they moved to Port Bay, NY so they could be nearer to their daughter.

Howard is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Gwenyth and Richard Thomson of Redwood; a grandson Christopher (Mystie) Consalvo of Wolcott; two great grandsons Malachi and Trey. He was predeceased by his wife of 74 years Gwenyth on January 2, 2019; he was also predeceased by two brothers and a sister.
