Newark –James J. Colacino, 52, died Sunday (October 24, 2010) at the Rochester General Hospital.

            Friends may call on Wednesday (October 27th) from 2- 4 and 7-9 P.M.at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller St. in Newark.   A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10A.M. on Thursday (October 28th) at St. Michael’s Church, South Main St., Newark by Father Peter Clifford.  Burial will be in East Newark Cemetery.

          Memorials in Jim’s name may be made to St. Michael’s Church; Newark Fire Department or Newark-Arcadia Volunteer Ambulance.

          A life-long resident of Newark, Jim was born March 3, 1958 in Lyons, the son of Joseph A. and Netta DiSanto Colacino.  He was a 1976 graduate of Newark High School.  He graduated from F.L.C.C. with a degree in criminal justice, attended R.I.T; Brockport State University and graduated from the Finger Lakes Law Enforcement Training Academy in Canandaigua in 1979.  He was a police officer with the Newark Police Department, retiring in 1994.  Jim worked part-time for the Clyde Police Department for several years, as well as several private security firms.  He had been acting Newark Village Justice and currently is a Justice for the Town of Arcadia.  In 1976, Jim joined the Excelsior Hook and Ladder Company of the Newark Fire Department.  He held several offices of the Fire Department and served as the Newark Fire Chief from 1996 to 1998. Jim joined the Board of Directors of the Newark-Arcadia Volunteer Ambulance in 2009 and was elected president in 2010.  He was a communicant of St. Michael’s Church and  a member of the Newark Council #897 Knights of Columbus.

          Jim is survived by his wife of 28 years, Roberta, a son Matthew and daughter Mara, his mother Netta Colacino all of Newark and his brother Rev John A. Colacino, C.PP.S. of Rochester.   He is predeceased by his father Joseph A. in 1998.
