Newark—John F. Holder. 87, died Tuesday (January 5, 2016) at the DeMay Living Center.
Friends may call from 3-5 and 6-8 P.M. on Friday (January 8th) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. A funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Saturday (January 9th) at the funeral home. Burial will be in East Newark Cemetery.
Memorials, in his name, may be made to the Hearing Loss Association, Rochester Chapter, @ Joanne Owens, 1630 Woodard Road, Webster, New York 14580.
Mr. Holder was born on October 29, 1928 in Canton, Ohio the son of the late Lewis and Mary Alice Duff Holder. He graduated from high school in North Canton Ohio and then attended Bowling Green University. John left college to serve four years in the US Navy from 1948 to 1952. After the service, he returned to school at Kent State University earning a Masters Degree on Industrial Engineering. He was an industrial engineer at Garlock, Inc. in Palmyra for about 20 years, retiring in 1998. John was a member of the Woodlane Community Church, the Newark Masonic Lodge and IEEE Engineers Association.
He is survived by his sons Gregory (Donna), Ronald, daughters Diane (David) Christler and Sandra (Kenneth) Lannon all of Newark; five grandchildren Amy Christler, Lauren Christler, Michael (Heather) Muscarella, Jason (Lauren) Holder, Julie (Brian) Robert; two great-grandchildren Halle Robert and Charles Holder; his siblings William (Doris) of North Canton, OH, Nancy Tiffany of Spokane, WA, Thomas of Canton, OH. John was predeceased by his wife Peggy in 2004 and a sister Patricia Swinehart.
