John L. Crescibene

Newark ---John L. Crescibene, 101, died Thursday (February 28, 2013) at the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital.

            Friends may call from 11 A.M. to Noon on Tuesday (March 5th) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark.  A funeral service will follow at Noon in the funeral home.  Burial will be in Newark Cemetery.

            Memorials, in his name, may be made to the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital Foundation, Box 571, Newark, New York 14513 or St. Michael Church, 401 South Main Street, Newark, New York 14513.

            Mr. Crescibene was born on March 13, 1911, in Italy the son of the late Lorenzo and Josephine Trozo Crescibene.  He came to the USA as an infant, graduated from Newark High School in 1928 and Rochester Business Institute in 1930.  John was a salesman for Cook Coffee Company, selling door to door for over fifty years.  He was a communicant of St. Michael Church.  He served in the US Navy  during World War II in the Pacific Theater and was a member of the  August Mauer Post #286 American Legion   A member of the Newark Council #897, Knights of Columbus, John had served as Grand Knight  several time.  He enjoyed long walk through-out the Village, stopping to talk to his many friends.  John loved to garden and was alway very proud of his tomatoes.         

            A proud family man, he is survived by four children Gloria Marro of Byron, John (Jill) Crescibene of Loveland, CO, Judith (William) Knapp of Brentwood, TN and Rita (John) Manley of Keuka Park; eleven grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren a sister Sylvia Fellela of FL; several nieces and nephews.   John was predeceased by his wife of 77 years Mary and a grandson John Marro.
