Lyons/Newark—Joyce A. George, 82, died Sunday (April 12, 2015) at the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital.

Friends may call from 4-8 P.M. on Tuesday (April 14th) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Wednesday ( April 15th) at 11 AM with Rev. Nilla Owens officiating. Burial in East Newark Cemetery.

Memorials, in her memory, may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1120 South Goodman Street, Rochester, New York 14620.

Mrs. George was born November 9, 1932 Newark, the daughter of Harry and Hazel Shaffner Thomas. She was a graduate in 1949, Clearfield High School, Clearfield, Pennsylvania. Joyce's primary love was caring for her daughter Mona. She was a member Emmanuel United Methodist Church. For several years, she was a teachers aide in the Phelps-Clifton Springs Schools. Joyce spent many hours as a volunteer at the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Larry; son Daniel (Deborah) of Lyons; two grandchildren Betsy (Thomas) Jones and Morgan (Michi) George; a sister Elsie DeMeyers of Newark; several neices and nephews. Joyce was predeceased by her daugther Mona Lou.
