Newark—Laverne DeCook, 62, died Tuesday (June 13, 2017) at his home with his loving girl friend Tracye Russell and wonderful caretaker Stephanie Belliveau.
Friend may call from 6 to 8 PM on Friday (June 16th) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. A funeral service wil be held at 11 AM on Saturday (June 17th) at the funeral home.

Laverne was born on December 1, 1954 in Newark, the son of the late Cornelius and Hilda Dormeyers DeCook. He was a life long resident of Newark and graduated from Newark High School in 1974. Over the years, Verne had worked at Hallagan, I.E.C., Spinco, Seneca Foods and Micro Tech. He was a member of the Light House Baptist Church and a friend of Bill W. for over 42 years. Verne was a lover of the Star Wars series.
He is survived by his daughter Sheena DeCook of Newark, and his best friend and caregiver Tracye Russell & Stephanie Belliveau and best friend Terry Grant all of Newark. Verne was predeceased by a sister Katherine DeCook.
