Newark/Syracuse---Lavina Overton, 82, died, Monday (January 24, 2005) at the Wayne County Nursing Home in Lyons.

Friends may call Thursday (Jan. 27th) from 12-2PM at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. Funeral services will follow at 2 PM at the funeral home with Rev. Carlos Smith, officiating. Burial will be in East Newark Cemetery.

Mrs. Overton was born on December 9, 1922, in Orange, New Jersey the daughter of Edward and Fannie Vaughn Lewis. For several years, she worked at Dey Brothers Department Store in Syracuse. Lavina volunteered at the Salvation Army in Syracuse.

She is survived by her son Eugene (fiance Carolyn Jacobs) Overton of Newark, three grandchildren Tracy (Rihine) Overton-Hinds, Tyrf Overton and Eugene M. Overton, two great grandchildren Thaddeus Holdren II and Daucyona Hinds.

She was predeceased by her husband Jimmy Overton.
