Margaret “Peg” Hanson
Newark—Margaret “Peggy” Hanson, 68, died Tuesday (August 23, 2016) at her home.
Friends may call from 4-7 P.M. on Friday (August 26th) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 A.M. on Saturday (August 27th) at St. Michael Church, South Main Street, Newark. Burial will follow in East Newark Cemetery.

Peggy was born on July 30, 1948 in Rochester, the daughter of the late David B. and Margaret Johnston Birrell. She was a 1966 graduate of Brighton High School and earned an Associate Degree in Criminal Law at Finger Lakes Community College. Peg was an independent insurance agent and worked for E. F. Ashley Insurance for 15 years, retiring in 1991 due to her disabliity. She was a communicant of St. Michael Church where she was active in their social ministries, bible studies, rummage sales and on one of the Sunday counting teams. Peggy had been very active in the community. She was a member of the Newark Kiwanis Club; she helped start the Newark High School Music Booster Club; volunteered with and served on the Board of Director of the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital Auxiliary; served on Wayne County Advisory Board for Aging and Youth and one of the original members of the Newark -Arcadia Volunteer Ambulance “NAVA”.
Peggy is survived by her husband of 47 years, Robert C.; three children Penny McBride of Rochester, Melissa (Scot) Swing of Bellevue, NB, and C. David (Donna) Hanson of York, PA; a granddaughter Gabrielle Swing; three sibling Patricia (Brian Musick) of Hendersonville, NC, J. Douglas Birrell of San Diego, CA and David (JoAnn) Birrell of Marietta, GA; several nieces and nephews.
