Newark—Rita J. Carr, 85, died on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Newark Wayne Community Hospital.

Friends may call from 1-4 PM on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023 at Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 E. Miller St. in Newark. A private burial service will be held at a later date in the East Newark Cemetery.

Memorials in her name, may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Rita was born on August 25, 1937 in Newark, NY, the daughter of the late Francis and Pauline Elliott Groat. She was a graduate of Newark High School, Class of 1956. With her husband Richard “Dixon”, she raised five sons. She started her career at Loblaw’s as a cashier and ended it in the Meat Market at Bell’s in Newark.

She is survived by four sons Patrick (Julie), David (Lisa), Richard, and Joseph Carr; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; close nieces Linda (Bill) Stoepfol and Doreen Moon; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Richard “Dixon” in 2003; a son Martin in 2020; two sisters Pauline DeBleare and Madeline Ehrhardt.
