Newark---Robert J. Healy, 79, died Monday (October 18, 2004) at his home on Franklin Street.

Friends may call from 4-7 PM on Thursday (Oct. 21th at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Friday (Oct. 22rd) at St. Michael's Church, South Main Street, Newark with Father Peter Clifford officiating. Burial will be in Newark Cemetery with military honors.

Mr. Healy was born on October 24, 1924, in Corning the son of Thomas F. and Celia Hanrahan Healy, Sr.. He was graduated from Newark High School, St. Bonaventure University and earned his Masters in Special Education at Syracuse University. For more than twenty-five years, he was a special education teacher at the Newark Developmental Center, retiring in 1986. Previously, Bob had been an investment counselor and an auto salesman. He was instrumental in the formation of the W.C.T.A. A Marine, Bob served in the Pacific Theater of Operation during World War II participating in the initial landing of Guam. He was also was in the initial landing on Okinawa, where he was wounded and awarded the Purple Heart. He was a communicant of St. Michael's Church, and was active with the Jail Ministry at the Wayne County Jail. He was an active volunteer over the years with Newark-Wayne Community Hospital, Caring Friends, Meals on Wheels and the Wayne County Literacy Volunteer Program. Bob had been a member of the Arcadia Memorial Post VFW, August Mauer Post American Legion, the Newark Country Club, and the Newark Elks.

Bob is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lorraine, his children Susan Healy of Carmel, Ca, Cindy (David) Hawke of Brockport, Judy (Charles) Cain of Newark, Steven (Lucille) Healy of Clifton Park, Ann (Duane) Gaul of Spencerport and Tim (Cheri) Healy of Dove Canyon, Ca.; twelve grandchildren Emma Healy, Meghan Healy, Bethany Hawke, Daniel Hawke, Matthew Hawke, Scott Contario, Kristian Healy, David Healy, Andrew Gaul, Lisa Gaul, Timothy Healy and Sarah Healy and a brother Thomas F. (Mary Jane) Healy, Jr. of Newark, and many nieces, nephews and many many loving friends. . He was predeceased by a sister Mary Louise DeBurlo and a brother James Healy,
