Russell R. Hasseler
Newark—Russell R. Hasseler, 67, died Wednesday (October 26, 2011 at the House of John in Clifton Springs.
Friends may call from 3 to 7 P.M. on Saturday (October 29th) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark, New York. A funeral service will be held at 1 P.M. on Sunday (October 30th) at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sodus Rural Cemetery.

Mr. Hassler was born on September 22, 1944 in Adams Center, New York, the son of Alvin and Florence Woodruff Hasseler. A graduate of Adams Center High School in 1962, he earned a degree in education from the State University of New York at Oswego in 1967. He was an elementary math teacher for the next 13 years, teaching in several schools including Sodus and Newark. Then he worked in retail stores and for eight years managed the Kwik Fill Station in Newark. Russ also was the assistant manager of the money room at the Finger Lakes Race Track for twenty-two years. He retired in 2003 from Kodak where he was a security guard for five years. “Rockin Russ” was well known in the area playing his keyboard. He was a member of R & R Band featuring the music of the nineteen fifties and sixties. A member of the Newark Elks and the Erie Flacon County Club, Russ enjoyed golf and his pool league, as well nature and photography.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Christine Doyle Hasseler, two sons Steven (Tanya) of Port Gibson, Terrence (Jolene) of Bergen, two granddaughters Sophia and Sienna; two brothers Warren (Shirley) of Monrovia, CA. and Robert (Marsha) of Watertown; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by parents and a sister Kathleen Hasseler.
