He was a member of the AMA and raced motorcycle Flat-track and Enduro racing with his brothers. Also drag racing his hand-built tube-chassis Pro-Stock Beretta, reaching 187 mph in 7.63 seconds in a quarter mile. Steve owned and operated Seely Engine Machine, Seely Heavy Duty and RightWay Industrial in Stanley. He became a Fire Commissioner for the Stanley Fire Department. Steve was a member of the Penn Yan Flying Club.
Steve will be sorely missed by his wife of 33 years, Mary, his children, Sarah (Mark) Phillips of Geneva, Mat (Jenny Snyder) of Stanley, Chris of Stanley and Gracie (Kyle) Kuhner of Naples; his grandchildren; Jeffrey and Ryan Phillips and Kova Kuhner; his parents Dorla and Jim Seely of Newark; his brothers Jerry (Laurie) and Craig (Joan) Seely both of Newark.
